The northern islands of Mauritius
Flat Island
Flat Island is an uninhabited island north of Mauritius, renowned for its stunning white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life.
More pristine and wild than Île aux Cerfs, Flat Island is an ideal getaway for lovers of pristine beaches, snorkeling, and peaceful strolls.
Its name can be misleading because Flat Island is actually quite hilly. Its lighthouse offers a fantastic viewpoint over the ocean and the northern coast of Mauritius.
Gabriel Island
Located just opposite Flat Island, with which it shares the same lagoon, Gabriel Island is a small, wild, and preserved island.
Composed of volcanic rock, it boasts beautiful vegetation and a rich and varied marine life. Its pristine white sand, turquoise waters, and magnificent panoramas never fail to enchant visitors.
Snorkeling enthusiasts can encounter turtles, rays, and a variety of fish there.
Gunner's Quoin
Gunner's Quoin is an iconic island off the northern coast of Mauritius.
It is a protected nature reserve home to many endemic species, including the famous Red-tailed Tropicbird.
It is distinguished by its exceptional cliff, visible from Cap Malheureux. It is also a superb spot for scuba diving.
Bernache Island & Amber Island
Unlike the islands mentioned earlier, Bernache Island and Amber Island are located within the lagoon in the northeast of Mauritius. These two islands are separated by a stretch of sea.
Amber Island lacks beautiful beaches but features a wild landscape with mangrove forests, dense vegetation, ponds, and volcanic rock formations. The island also houses historical ruins worth visiting.
Bernache Island, smaller in size, boasts fine sandy beaches and a casuarina forest. It's an ideal place for peaceful relaxation, away from mass tourism.
